- Everyone knows that churches have pews and organs and hymn books but churches are made up of people, who do all the things that people do in the 21st Century, including using the internet. On this website, you’ll find all the usual things you’d expect, like dates and times of services (with a brief description of what goes on), contact details for the church and key individuals, articles on things like baptism, weddings, and other activities we do as a church. There’s stuff to help you, inform you, and hopefully, make you think a little about your life.
Here is the list of the wonderful people who keep the church going.

I was born in bury and attended a number of churches over the years. I became aware of St John’s once again when I was going through a particularly difficult time in my life; that was 5 years ago. After 3 years of attending I was honoured to be asked to become a member of the PCC, 12 months later I was asked to be a church warden, although it’s still early days, I am enjoying the work involved and every day is a learning day.

I have lived in Birtle for 33 years and have attended St Johns for @14years, as Warden for the last 7 years. I was married here and when my husband passed his funeral was held here with his ashes are interred in the Garden of Remembrance. I am retired, and after working full time and being my husbands carer, I am now enjoying some ‘me’ time.I love knitting. sewing, reading and most of all walking and spending time with my partner and his two young grandchildren. My partner lives in St Annes on Sea so time is spent between our two homes which keeps life busy but pleasantly interesting. Holidays are now spent discovering parts of Britain that we have never visited , lots of countryside and walking.

I first came to a service at St.John’s in 1990 when my eldest son, Thomas, was baptised and, liking the friendly and relaxed atmosphere,
continued attending. I also have another son, Richard, who is father to my two grandchildren.
I’m a PCC member and currently the Church Treasurer.
Having worked in NHS Finance since I left school I am now employed by Greater Manchester Integrated Care Board mainly dealing with
GP practice budgets and payments.
Outside work I love reading, going to the theatre and researching my family tree. I’m also loving recapturing my lost youth by
visiting animal farms, theme parks and similar places with my grandchildren.

My husband David and I were married here, as were our two daughters.
I felt privileged when I was first invited to join the PCC, and have served as PCC Secretary and Churchwarden”
